Residents of Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, have urged the state government to urgently address the increasing cost of sachet water within the city.

As of the time of this report, reporter stated that the price has risen to an all-time high of 50 Naira per sachet.

Some individuals who shared their opinions on the situation felt that the price was excessively high, particularly when compared to neighboring states such as Adamawa and Gombe, where sachet water still costs as little as 20 Naira or two for 50 Naira.

Frustrated by the situation, the public is urging the state government to look into the practices of water distribution companies operating in the area.

They also recommended that the government call in the chairman of the sachet water producers’ association for questioning.

Musa Ahmadu expressed disappointment, stating that the state government has failed to monitor or regulate the activities of sachet water manufacturers, especially in Jalingo, the state capital.

Ahmadu, noting the current high cost of living both in the state and nationwide, expressed confusion over the rising price of sachet water in the state. He called on the government to implement measures that would prevent such price hikes.

Similarly, other residents who spoke with the reporter emphasized that the government should not allow a few individuals or companies to take advantage of the people of Jalingo.

On the other hand, some producers who spoke with our reporter attributed the price increase to the rising cost of petroleum products, which they claimed had led to higher material costs.
