The Interior Minister, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, stated that the federal government is working urgently to address the country’s security issues.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Tunji-Ojo noted that the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, the Defence Minister, Mohammed Badaru, and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, are deeply concerned and tirelessly focused on this matter.
“Nobody is resting—not the NSA, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, nor the DSS,” he added.
The minister emphasized that no one is resting; they are actively working, as security is a significant national concern. He affirmed that he would take responsibility for the safety of Nigerians on behalf of the President.
He mentioned that security has improved under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, with Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) weakened by military efforts.
He also highlighted that the current administration has taken a proactive approach to safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians.
The minister, addressing the recent attacks by a new terror group in Sokoto and Kebbi States, urged Nigerians not to judge President Tinubu, noting that the President is fully aware of the nation’s security issues. “The President is attuned to these challenges. Don’t judge him or this administration solely on promises—actions speak louder than words.”
“We took office on May 29 last year, and I want to keep politics out of this discussion. We all know the situation across the country. Are we exactly where we want to be? No. But are we where we were? Also no. We’ve made progress,” Tunji-Ojo remarked.
