Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has authorized the payment of a new minimum wage of N70,000 for civil servants in the state.
Buni, in a statement issued by his Director-General of Press and Media Affairs, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, in Damaturu today 23/11/24 announced that the new wage would take effect in December.
The approval, as stated by Mohammed, was based on a memo signed by the governor, following recommendations made by a committee formed by the state government to review the minimum wage.
The committee recommended a review of local government finances to facilitate a smooth transition from the current salary structure to the new minimum wage.
“The reconciliation process, which is almost complete, is expected to be finalized soon for approval, allowing for the swift enrollment of local government workers into the new salary system,” he stated.
The aide also mentioned that the state government hopes civil servants will respond positively by giving their best to ensure effective service delivery.
