The Zamfara State chapter of the Association of Small-Scale Miners of Nigeria has applauded President Bola Tinubu for reappointing Fatima Umaru-Shinkafi as the Executive Secretary of the Solid Minerals Development Fund (SMDF) and the Presidential Artisanal Gold Mining Initiative (PAGMI).

In a statement signed by its chairman, Abubakar Rabiu, the association hailed the decision as a strategic move reflecting the president’s dedication to advancing Nigeria’s non-oil sector.

The association extended its congratulations to Umaru-Shinkafi on her “well-deserved” reappointment, praising her commitment to advancing Nigeria’s solid minerals sector.

It emphasized her achievements, such as attracting foreign investments, empowering local miners, and generating employment for thousands of youths.

“This reappointment is a thoughtful decision that will further solidify and enhance the solid minerals sector. Hajia Fatima Umaru-Shinkafi has shown outstanding dedication to propelling the industry forward, making substantial contributions to the nation’s GDP,” the statement read.

The group also commended Tinubu for honoring his campaign pledge to appoint women to prominent government roles, describing the decision as clear evidence of his administration’s commitment to gender inclusivity.

The association expressed its backing for Umaru-Shinkafi’s leadership, voicing confidence in her ability to drive progress in the sector and aid in revitalizing the nation’s economy.

“We call on Nigerians to rally behind this visionary leader in our shared pursuit of a better society,” the statement concluded.

Umaru-Shinkafi’s reappointment comes at a pivotal moment when the Nigerian government is focusing on diversification efforts to lessen reliance on oil revenue.
