New indications emerge from Atiku’s camp about potential merger discussions with Peter Obi for 2027

Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) are reportedly exploring the possibility of forming an alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The move is aimed at building a strong opposition capable of challenging and potentially defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Atiku’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe, revealed that discussions are ongoing between the two leaders.

“Nigerians deserve better than the current situation. Things have never been this bad, and there’s no hope,” Ibe stated, emphasizing the need for a united opposition.

Paul Ibe explained that the 2023 elections offered valuable lessons for both Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, encouraging them to consider putting aside their differences.

“Atiku Abubakar has consistently advocated for opposition parties to unite, as that’s the only way to remove this incompetent and clueless government,” he stated.

He went further to say although the talks are still in their early stages, Ibe suggested that building a united front is crucial for steering Nigeria back on track politically.

“All parties, including Atiku Abubakar, have learned important lessons, which form the foundation for the ongoing discussions,” he added.

When questioned about whether Atiku would step aside for Obi in the proposed alliance, Paul Ibe avoided giving a definitive answer, simply noting that “all options are on the table.”

This possible collaboration highlights increasing dissatisfaction among opposition leaders and their resolve to challenge the APC’s grip on power.
