On Friday 22/11/24, Kelly Okungbowa, Chairman of the Committee established by Governor Monday Okpebholo to recover government vehicles, reported that over 200 vehicles were missing.

He revealed that within 24 hours, the committee had recovered three vehicles from a private residence in Benin.

Okungbowa, speaking to the press about the committee’s progress, shared that the recovered vehicles included a Hilux van and two Toyota Hiace buses.

He also noted that one of the buses contained palliative supplies that were intended for distribution to the people of Edo.

The chairman further stated that the recovered palliatives included bags of garri and rice.

He urged the public to provide more information, noting that earlier tips had led to the recovery of the three vehicles.

Okungbowa assured whistleblowers of a generous reward for accurate and verifiable information.

“On Thursday 21/11/24, we were inaugurated and pledged to carry out Mr. Governor’s directive within the law—to recover all missing government vehicles in private possession.

“We are pleased to announce to the people of Edo State that we have achieved significant progress within 24 hours of our inauguration,” he said.

I am pleased to inform you that we have recovered one Hilux and two Toyota Hiace buses from private custody.

“We assure the people of Edo and the State Government that we will perform this task to the best of our ability. We are committed to recovering all stolen vehicles.

“These are not private assets but belong to the citizens of Edo, and it is wrong for any individual to steal government property,” he said.

He called on former government officials and other citizens holding government vehicles to return them within 48 hours.
