Military Retirees Shut Finance Ministry In Abuja

0

Just this morning 5/12/24, members of the Coalition of Military Pensioners, comprising Nigerian Armed Forces retirees, closed the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja to protest the non-payment of their 20% to 28% salary increase for the period from January to November 2024.

The retired military officers, who traveled from various chapters, expressed frustration over the Federal Government’s failure to pay their entitlements.

Their demands include the payment of palliatives from October 2023 to November 2024, an additional N32,000 to their pensions, a lump sum for the Security Department Allowance (SDA), and the refund of pension deductions made from medically boarded soldiers, among other issues.

In December 2023, the Senate revealed intentions to conduct a thorough investigation into the Military Pensions Board once it reconvenes after its recess.

The announcement was made by Olamilekan Adeola, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, during the budget report defense by the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service.

During the session, a request was made for an additional N20bn to fund the construction of an office building for the Military Pensions Board and the renovation of phases 1 to 4 of the Federal Secretariat.

The Chairman raised concerns about the board’s operations, its budget, and the number of retirees reportedly receiving payments.
