A gunfight broke out between soldiers and unidentified armed men in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area, Imo State, reportedly resulting in multiple deaths and numerous injuries.
The Nation reported that the attack took place last night at the Aba branch in Ehime Mbano.
“Some non-state actors attacked and killed several soldiers in the area yesterday,” a source stated.
“The entire area is in chaos, and troops have taken control of nearby communities,” the source added.
In response to the incident, residents fled in fear as ongoing gunfire heightened the atmosphere of tension and uncertainty.
“We are frightened,” said a resident who remains anonymous.
“The sound of gunfire is still ringing in our ears. We’re uncertain about what will happen next, and we are deeply concerned.
“Ehime used to be a peaceful place, and we don’t understand what is going on,” he added.
However, at the time this report was filed, both the Nigerian Army and the Police had not yet responded when contacted by the reporter.
This follows a recent incident in which the house of Senator Frank Ibezim, a former lawmaker who represented the Okigwe senatorial zone in the 9th Assembly, along with the National Open University center in Ezeoke Nsu, Ehime Mbano Local Government, were set on fire.
The incident was condemned by the Imo State Police Command.
