A tragic incident occurred in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where a 41-day-old baby was reportedly killed in a suspected ritualistic murder. The police have apprehended Ifagbenga Taiwo, a trainee herbalist, in connection with the crime. The tragedy unfolded on Monday, December 9, 2024, in the Keesi area of Adatan.

The baby’s mother, Raimat Wasilat, had left her son on a bed inside their home while she stepped outside to wash clothes. Upon returning, she was devastated to find her baby dead with a slit throat. Her cries alerted neighbors, who rushed to the scene and confirmed the baby had been killed during her brief absence.

Adewumi, a local resident, revealed that the attacker likely gained entry through the window to commit the horrific act. “The mother was outside washing clothes, and when she returned, she found her baby dead. It was evident someone had entered the house and slit the baby’s throat,” Adewumi stated in a video captured at the scene.

The baby’s maternal grandfather, Mukaila Olaide, also recounted the shocking event. “We were a bit far away when we heard the commotion. Upon reaching the house, we found the baby had been slaughtered,” he said.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Omolola Odutola, stated that the baby’s mother, Wasilat, has accused her husband, Ifagbenga Taiwo, of the crime. She alleges that Taiwo, who is training as a herbalist, may have intended to use the baby’s blood for a ritual.

Following her claims, Taiwo was promptly arrested, and the crime scene was investigated. Authorities have launched an investigation to uncover more details about the tragedy, while the baby’s body has been sent for an autopsy. The community remains deeply shaken by the devastating incident.
