An Allied Air cargo plane crash-landed at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) in Abuja today 11/12/24, due to a malfunction in one of its landing gears.

Zagazola Makama, a counterterrorism and insurgency expert focused on the Lake Chad Basin, revealed this in a post on his X handle, noting that the aircraft had six crew members on board.

Makama reported that all crew members were safely evacuated, with no casualties recorded.

He added that the crew is currently undergoing medical evaluations at the 063 Nigerian Air Force (NAF) medical unit.

“Emergency responders quickly secured the crash site, with the area being cordoned off under the supervision of the Military Airport Commandant (MAC) and other relevant authorities,” he stated.

The incident prompted the temporary closure of the airport runway, causing major delays for inbound and outbound flights. Passengers and airlines have been advised to anticipate disruptions until further notice.

Airport authorities and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) are working to remove the aircraft and inspect the runway for any damage. Efforts are being made to resume normal operations as soon as possible.

“Further updates will be shared as the investigation into the incident continues,” the security expert noted.
