The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command plans to prosecute a herbalist, Ismail Usman, who shot himself while testing a self-made bulletproof charm.

In a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident.

She explained that the herbalist shot himself in the stomach while attempting to prove the effectiveness of his self-designed ‘bulletproof’ charm.

According to Adeh, the incident, which occurred on November 23 in Kuchibuyi Village, Kubwa area, was reported to the police by one Shandam Michael.

SP Josephine Adeh stated that officers from the Byazhin division promptly responded to the report and arrived at the scene to find the herbalist in critical condition.

She said the herbalist was initially taken to Kubwa General Hospital for emergency care before being referred to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

“Following the incident, police conducted a comprehensive search of the herbalist’s residence and recovered a homemade firearm along with various charms used in the reckless experiment,” she added.

Adeh noted that investigations are ongoing, and Usman is expected to be charged with unlawful possession of firearms and attempted suicide.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, criticized the incident and emphasized the dangers of illegal firearms, according to SP Josephine Adeh.

“This incident highlights the significant risks involved in reckless actions,” Disu stated.

He urged the community to refrain from engaging in such hazardous practices, Adeh added.
