The Senate has launched an inquiry into the recent demolitions in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), which have left numerous residents without homes.
Senator Ireti Kingibe of the FCT Senatorial District presented the motion, condemning the demolitions as unlawful and calling for an immediate halt.
The Senate decided to form an investigative committee to look into the issue and summoned FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to provide clarifications.
“We must make sure no more demolitions take place without proper legal authorization,” Kingibe emphasized.
In another development, the Senate called on the Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria PLC to answer for allegations of mismanagement in the Odukpani-Itu Highway project.
Despite over ₦18 billion in public funds being allocated, the highway, which is crucial for connecting Cross River and Akwa Ibom states, remains unfinished.
However, Senator Osita Ngwu, who introduced the motion, accused Julius Berger of disregarding several invitations from the National Assembly.
