There is confusion surrounding the number of residents killed in a recent attack in Logo and Katsina-Ala local government areas of Benue State.

Reports indicate that at least 30 people were killed by suspected armed herdsmen in several communities across the two areas.

The attack, which began on Sunday and continued into the early hours of Monday, resulted in the recovery of 10 bodies in Katsina-Ala and 20 in Logo.

Speaking to journalists in Makurdi, the state capital, the Chairman of Katsina-Ala LGA, Justine Shaku, stated that the assailants killed many people and destroyed valuable property in his area.

The Logo LGA Chairman, Clement Kav, revealed that the attackers claimed ownership of his territory, asserting that the Tombo land belonged to them.

According to him, the assailants targeted the Tombo council ward, killing 17 people and injuring 37 others.

However, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Catherine Anene, reported a different figure, stating that only five bodies were recovered.

“Logo attack confirmed. Five bodies recovered,” Anene stated.
