The Benue State Government has revealed plans to renovate all public primary schools by constructing multi-story buildings. Solomon Iorpev, the Technical Adviser on Media, Publicity, and Strategic Communication to Governor Hyacinth Alia, shared this update today 21/11/24 in Makurdi during an interaction with members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Benue Council.
Iorpev explained that the initiative aims to make the schools more appealing and supportive of learning.
“The governor has committed to ensuring that every government-owned primary school has a multi-story structure as its main building,” he stated.
He added, “Well-designed structures not only enhance the learning environment but also attract more people to educational institutions.”
The government is currently recruiting over 9,000 qualified primary school teachers to strengthen the teaching workforce.
“Additionally, modern teaching equipment will be introduced moving forward,” Iorpev stated.
He also mentioned that teachers and other staff now receive their salaries promptly. Furthermore, Governor Hyacinth Alia has approved a ₦75,000 minimum wage for workers to enhance their morale.
In the health sector, Iorpev revealed that a cancer center is being established at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital in Makurdi to provide treatment for the disease. To improve service delivery, more than 400 new employees have been hired at the teaching hospital. He added that efforts are underway to revitalize all general hospitals across the state.
