Funke Akindele, the Box Office Queen, is aiming to earn 5 billion naira from her upcoming movie Everybody Loves Jenifa, set to hit cinemas on December 13, 2024.
Known for her extravagant marketing strategies, Akindele began promoting the film months in advance.
During an Exhibitor Soirée at Film House cinemas on November 20, 2024, the accomplished filmmaker shared her goal of surpassing ₦5 billion in ticket sales this year, expressing confidence in achieving the target: “I believe we can exceed ₦5 Billion,” she stated.
Last year, A Tribe Called Judah was leaked online, which threatened its revenue. This year, the filmmaker has urged both cinema staff and audiences to be mindful of their surroundings and to discourage the use of mobile phones for recording while watching the movie in cinemas.
“I beg you all, I know times are tough, but please, let’s stay vigilant and security-conscious. People use their phones to record movies. Think about what happened to us last year with A Tribe Called Judah. Let’s be careful and watchful. This is our film, and we want to profit from it. Imagine how much we could have earned if A Tribe Called Judah hadn’t been pirated. But we’re grateful for the opportunity we have now. Please protect this film for me. I’m begging you, no phones. We even had to make a video telling people, no recordings,” she pleaded.
Everybody Loves Jenifa boasts an impressive cast, featuring Funke Akindele (Jenifa) and Folarin ‘Falz’ Falana (Sege), along with Jackie Appiah, Nancy Isime, Stan Nze, Bisola Aiyeola, Patience Ozokwor, Chimezie Chimezie Imo, and Isaac Olayiwola (Layi Wasabi).
