Leny Yoro made his debut for Manchester United following his £52 million ($67 million) transfer from Lille, featuring in Saturday’s 2-0 friendly victory over Rangers. Alongside Yoro, Jadon Sancho returned from his hiatus and played the opening 45 minutes in United’s latest warm-up match ahead of the upcoming Premier League season.
The match, held at Murrayfield in Edinburgh, saw United secure a comfortable win against the Scottish Premiership side, with goals from Amad Diallo and Joe Hugill sealing the victory.
Just two days after Yoro’s high-profile signing, the 18-year-old French defender partnered with Jonny Evans, who is twice his age, in the centre of United’s defence. The crowd of 56,574 at the home of Scottish rugby also witnessed Sancho’s first appearance for United since his previous disagreements with Ten Hag last season.
Sancho, 24, spent the latter half of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund, contributing to their journey to the Champions League final. His return to United action marked his first appearance since appearing as a substitute in a victory over Nottingham Forest last August.
Several key United players, including Joshua Zirkzee, who recently joined from Bologna, were unavailable as they recuperate from Euro 2024. However, notable names such as Andre Onana, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Casemiro, Mason Mount, and Amad Diallo, who previously had a loan stint with Rangers, featured prominently.
Diallo opened the scoring in the 39th minute, cutting in from the right wing and striking a low shot past Jack Butland from inside the penalty area. With the Premier League campaign set to begin against Fulham on August 16 at Old Trafford, manager Ten Hag rotated his entire outfield lineup at the start of the second half.
