The 24-year-old and his club skipped the recent Ballon d’Or ceremony after he lost out to Manchester City’s Rodri, but he claimed this honor in Doha.
Vinicius was instrumental in Real Madrid’s successful 2023-24 campaign, helping secure both the Champions League and La Liga titles with 24 goals and 11 assists.
Earlier in the event, Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmatà was named Women’s Player of the Year for the second consecutive time.
This marks Vinicius’ first time winning the award, offering a more positive end to the season following October’s Ballon d’Or boycott.
This was the word of Vinicius after receiving the award. “I felt impossible when I played barefoot on the streets of São Gonçalo, and now I’m here,” said Vinicius.
The Ballon d’Or and FIFA Best Awards are regarded as football’s two most prestigious honors.
This marks Vinicius’ first FIFA accolade, following Lionel Messi’s wins in the last two years and Robert Lewandowski’s victories in the two prior.
