Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca revealed that Marc Cucurella was shown a red card after the match against Brentford due to inappropriate behavior.
Cucurella had scored the opening goal in Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over Thomas Frank’s side at Stamford Bridge. Nicolas Jackson added a second before Bryan Mbeumo reduced the deficit for Brentford.
Cucurella will miss Chelsea’s next game as he faces a one-match suspension.
The Spanish defender received his first yellow card during stoppage time for a foul on Fabio Carvalho. After the final whistle, he was shown a second yellow and subsequently sent off for pushing Brentford forward Kevin Shade.
Maresca told reporters, “I didn’t witness the second yellow card. The referee explained that it was given due to poor behavior. There are areas where we can improve.”
