Yar’adua’s Mother Dies in Katsina

Dada Yar’adua, the mother of former President Umaru Yar’adua and former Chief of Staff, Supreme Headquarters, Shehu Yar’adua, has passed away at the age of 102.

According to report, she died on Monday evening at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Katsina State.

Dada Yar’adua was highly respected for being the mother of prominent Nigerian politicians, including Umaru, who served as Nigeria’s President and was a two-term governor of Katsina State; Shehu, who held the position of Chief of Staff, Supreme Headquarters during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s military regime; and Abdulaziz, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army.

Her passing has led to an outpouring of prayers and condolences from Nigerians across the country.

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, visited the Yar’adua family on Monday evening to offer his condolences. This was disclosed in a tweet by his Digital Media aide, Isah Miqdad, who tweets under the handle #Miqdad_Jnr.

“Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State paused his official duties in Daura this evening to visit the family of the late Hajiya Fatima Dada, mother of former President Umaru Musa Yar’adua.”

According to the tweet, the late Dada will be laid to rest tomorrow morning in accordance with Islamic customs. The governor conveyed his deepest sympathies to the grieving family and offered his heartfelt condolences.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar expressed his sorrow over Dada’s passing in a post on his X handle, tweeting as #atiku. He wrote, “Innalillahi Wa’inna Ilaihir Raji’un. I am deeply saddened by the death of Hajia Aya Dada Yar’Adua, the mother of my late mentor, Tafida Shehu Yar’Adua, former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, and Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, among others. After the loss of my own mother, I considered Hajiya Dada as a mother figure.”

He continued, “She was truly a mother to many, with her home serving as a refuge where she welcomed everyone with love. Her absence will be deeply felt. On behalf of the Atiku Abubakar family and team, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Yar’Adua family, their friends, and associates on the loss of such a priceless gem.

“My sympathies also extend to the government and people of Katsina State. May her sins be forgiven, and may she be granted Aljannah Firdausi. Ameen.”
