Wike Grants a Two-Week Extension to 762 Affected Land Owners in the FCT to Avoid Revocation

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has granted a two-week extension to the owners of 762 revoked land plots in Maitama to settle payments for their Certificates of Occupancy (C of O).

These plots, located in Maitama II, Cadastral Zone A10, Abuja, face final revocation unless the payments are made.

Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, issued a statement on Friday in Abuja, emphasizing that Wike’s main goal is not to strip people of their land but to ensure they pay the required dues to the government.

He reminded that on October 5, a list of 3,273 allottees and title holders who had not yet paid for their Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) was released.

Since then, many of the affected allottees have expressed a willingness to pay. Given that the government’s primary goal is to secure payment, a two-week grace period has been granted.

The spokesman stated that the 762 defaulters, along with 614 others still owing for their Certificates of Occupancy (C of O), have until January 3, 2025, to make the payment, or they will lose their Right of Occupancy (R of O) titles.

This decision is in line with Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978.

“After January 3, there will be no further extensions, and the withdrawal of the R of O titles from defaulters will be final,” he added.
