The House of Representatives has rejected the National Honour awarded to Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, saing that President Bola Tinubu showed favoritism by granting Senate President Godswill Akpabio a higher honor.
It would be recalled that on Tuesday, Tinubu announced the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) on Akpabio and Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Kekere Ekun, while Abbas and Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau received the Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR).
In response, following an urgent motion by Philip Agbese on Wednesday, the House of Representatives declared that they are not Inferior to the Senate and therefore, both leaders should be treated equally.
The motion, endorsed by all 360 members of the House, demanded the removal of the terms “upper chamber” and “lower chamber,” asserting that both chambers hold equal status.
Further details to follow.
