Officers of the Lagos State Police Command have reportedly tortured and assaulted three members of the Nigerian Legion Corps Commissionaire.
According to reporter, the incident took place on Friday in the Ayobo area of the state.
It was revealed that the policemen accused one of the legion officers of “wearing a face mask during the day.”
The officers were subsequently arrested and were taken to the Ayobo police station, where they were detained for several hours before being released to their lawyer.
“The three legion officers were carrying out their lawful duties at a children’s end-of-year party near Gray Stone School, Samaria, Ipaja, Ayobo,” a source disclosed.
“Initially, two Naval officers arrived on a motorcycle to verify their identity, possibly suspecting they might be impostors.
However, after the legionnaires identified themselves, they all interacted amicably.
“A few minutes after the Naval officers departed, a police team in a minibus suddenly arrived and began assaulting the legionnaires without provocation.
“The police claimed one of them was wearing a mask that concealed his face, accusing them of being impostors without first asking them to identify themselves.”
They were subsequently taken to Ayobo Police Station, where the assault continued, saying that they were unfamiliar with the Corps’ operation.
“They were severely mistreated and handled like criminals, despite being in full uniform.”
