To prevent the protest from becoming violent, the Yobe State government imposed a 24-hour curfew on Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru areas of the state after some hoodlums exploited the hardship protest to loot government property.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, retired Brig. Gen. Dahiru Abdussallam, said yesterday that the curfew would be strictly enforced.
The Yobe State Government has assessed the security situation in Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru towns, where some hoodlums are exploiting the protest to vandalize and loot government and private properties.
“In view of this, the state government has implemented a 24-hour curfew in Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru. The public is advised to comply with the curfew and remain at home to maintain peace in these areas and throughout the state.”
“Security agencies have been directed to ensure enforcement and full compliance of the curfew,” the statement read.
