According to the report by the Nigerian Tribune, the senate called for an emergency executive session today, Thursday, after a contentious dispute over the Red Chamber’s scheduled official sitting time.

The dispute comprised Senate President Godswill Akpabio and his predecessor, Senator Ahmed Lawan.

The Senate’s rules state that the official commencement time is 10 am.

But since the lawmakers arrive late, meetings have been customary to start much later, typically at 11 am or even later.

Traditionally, the Senate adjourns its settings for its day’s sessions with preparations to start at 11 am on the following legislative day even though the official start time commences by 10 am.

On Thursday, the Senate attempted to formally change its rules to move the official sitting time from 10 am to 11 am.

Opeyemi Bamidele who is the Senate Leader brought in the motion.

Lawan opposed the amendment as the Senate began debating it.
