French President Emmanuel Macron officially welcomed Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, at the renowned Invalides military complex in Paris.
The ceremony, held on Wednesday, November 27, marked the beginning of President Tinubu’s two-day state visit to France, which focused on strengthening ties between the two countries.
Both leaders gathered at the Foyer of the National Des Invalides, a landmark celebrated for its military museum and historical importance.
In Tinubu’s honour, a grand military parade was organized, signifying the growing diplomatic relationship between Nigeria and France.
During the ceremony, Macron referred to the visit as “a chance to reinforce France’s dedication to building strong partnerships with Nigeria.”
In response, Tinubu expressed confidence in the prospects of “increased collaboration in key areas of shared interest, such as trade, security, and cultural exchange.”
President Tinubu is accompanied by a prominent delegation, including the governors of Lagos, Katsina, Ogun, Enugu, Kwara, and Benue states, as well as key cabinet members. These include ministers overseeing health, defence, finance, tourism, communications, and the Federal Capital Territory.
The visit will involve in-depth discussions between the two leaders, with plans to sign agreements aimed at strengthening economic, defense, and cultural ties.
It emphasizes Nigeria’s role as a vital partner for France in Africa and showcases President Tinubu’s diplomatic priorities since taking office.
