The Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) has issued a warning about a scheme to falsely incriminate its leader, Peter Obi, the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, with the aim of facilitating his arrest.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday, the POMR expressed concern over what it termed “unfounded and malicious accusations” made by one of the Presidential Spokespersons, Bayo Onanuga, alleging that Peter Obi orchestrated a planned protest in the country.
Onanuga went as far as suggesting that Peter Obi should bear responsibility for any disturbances arising from planned protests.
Dr. Tanko Yunusa, in the statement signed on behalf of POMR, asserted, “We have reliable information indicating that these baseless allegations are part of a concerted effort to arrest Obi, restrict his freedoms, and undermine his advocacy for good governance, which threatens their comfortable lifestyles.”
The statement continued, emphasizing Obi’s consistent stance against violence, even in the face of significant provocations, both during and outside his political tenure. It highlighted Obi’s issue-focused approach during campaigns, refraining from personal attacks.
POMR also raised awareness of orchestrated efforts employing various tactics to hinder Obi’s communication with the Nigerian populace, who are eager to hear his views on critical matters. It accused these hired agents of spreading falsehoods to distract Obi and confuse the public, undermining his role as a unifying force amidst Nigeria’s current political and economic challenges.
The statement urged Nigerians to dismiss what it termed “cheap blackmail” from the Presidency, stressing that Obi and his supporters nationwide and abroad remain steadfast in their pursuit of a better Nigeria. They are committed to their goal and will not be intimidated or diverted from their mission.
