Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in Nigeria’s 2023 general elections, warned that power outages and high petroleum costs could worsen poverty in the country.
In a post on X on Sunday, he emphasized the severe impact that frequent power cuts have on businesses, particularly small enterprises.
Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi expressed concern over the ongoing total blackout affecting Northern Nigeria for several days.
He noted that the persistent power outages in various regions, especially in the Northern, Eastern, and South-South states, are a serious issue.
Obi emphasized the severe impact these outages have on businesses, particularly small businesses that rely heavily on public electricity to maintain their operations and livelihoods.
He tweeted, “The current power crisis, coupled with high petroleum prices and challenging business conditions, creates a dangerous situation that could lead to widespread business closures and rising poverty across the country.”
