Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi, the Edo State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stated that there is evidence showing the recently concluded governorship election in the state was tainted by irregularities.

The PDP Chairman made this statement on Wednesday while leading party supporters to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Benin to express their dissatisfaction with the election results.

According to report, the protest was also attended by the Director General of the PDP Campaign Council, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, and the Deputy Director General (Media and Publicity), Rev. Olu Martins.

Aziegbemi urged INEC to announce Ighodalo as the legitimate winner, accusing the commission of manipulating results in certain local government areas to benefit another candidate.

“We appreciate everyone who has joined us in the effort to reclaim our stolen mandate, which was undermined by both the police and INEC.

If we had lost in a free and fair contest, we would have congratulated them, but they stole our mandate. Therefore, we cannot congratulate them,” Aziegbemi stated.

Aziegbemi assured supporters that the PDP would recover its mandate, encouraging them to stay patient as the judiciary examines the case and delivers a just ruling.

“This is Nigeria; we will not permit our victory to be taken from us. We are confident that the compelling evidence we present will help us reclaim our mandate,” Aziegbemi stated.
