The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, is currently leading in the overall results of Saturday’s Edo State governorship election, as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
However, the Returning Officer, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, has not yet officially declared the winner at the time of this report.
Meanwhile, results from all 18 local government areas in the state reveal that the APC secured victory in 11 LGAs, outperforming the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, and Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata.
Okpebholo received 291,667 votes, while Ighodalo and Akpata garnered 247,274 and 18,737 votes, respectively.
The PDP candidate managed to win in seven LGAs across the state.
The votes were cast by 2.2 million registered voters with permanent voter cards across 18 Local Government Areas and 4,519 polling units in Edo State.
The election winner will succeed Godwin Obaseki as the new occupant of Osadebe House in Edo State.
