Police Dismantle Kidnapping Gang After Fierce Shootout in Enugu, Recover Stolen Belongings

The Enugu State Police Command has uncovered a kidnapping gang’s hideout and arrested five suspects involved in burglary and car theft within the state.

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Enugu.

Ndukwe stated that the achievement was part of the Command’s heightened efforts to combat crime during the festive season.

He added that multiple operations by the police resulted in the recovery of firearms, ammunition, military uniforms, and stolen items, including a vehicle.

“Initial investigations revealed the gang’s connection to a recent kidnapping case and other serious crimes in the Nsukka area.

Efforts are underway to track down the fleeing suspects,” the spokesman said.

Ndukwe also mentioned that in early December, operatives from the Central Police Station arrested a suspect for stealing a red Volkswagen Passat from a church parking lot in Coal Camp, Enugu.

He said the car was recovered, and the suspect admitted to the crime.

“The state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kanayo Uzuegbu, has reaffirmed the Command’s strong commitment to ensuring public safety and security in Enugu State during the festive season and beyond.

“He encourages citizens to stay alert, report suspicious people and activities, and cooperate with law enforcement to maintain peace and security throughout the state,” he added.
