The Katsina State High Court has rejected a lawsuit aimed at removing Umar Iliya Damagum as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The suit, brought by PDP member Ibrahim Musa, contested Damagum’s appointment, claiming that the replacement of former National Chairman Dr. Iyorchia Ayu was unconstitutional.
Musa argued that Ayu’s successor should have been selected from the North-Central geopolitical zone, where Ayu is from.
However, Justice Abdullahi Bawa-Faskari dismissed the case, stating that it pertains to the internal affairs of the party and is beyond the court’s jurisdiction.
In his ruling, the judge upheld the preliminary objection raised by the first and second defendants, declaring the case “not justiciable” as it strictly concerns party matters.
Justice Bawa-Faskari stated, “The matter is not justiciable as it falls entirely within the internal affairs of the party, and the court has no jurisdiction.”
