NYSC Urges Corps Members to Stop Requesting Transfers, Stating That Life Doesn’t end in Their Home Communities

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Yusha’u Ahmad, has urged corps members to abandon thoughts of relocating to their home communities, stressing that life extends beyond those areas.

According to the reporter, Ahmad made the remarks during his visit to the temporary NYSC orientation camp in Kaduna on 13/12/24, Friday.

Speaking to the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream ‘I’ corps members currently undergoing the mandatory three-week orientation, he encouraged them to embrace their assigned locations as home and underscored the importance of adapting to new environments.

Ahmad encouraged the corps members to respect the cultures and traditions of their host communities, advising them to stay peaceful and resilient while contributing positively to their assigned areas.

“I believe many of you will decide to stay here even after your service. However, it’s crucial to prioritize your safety. While we are concerned about your security, ultimately, you are your best protector,” he stated.

He also emphasized the importance of skills acquisition and entrepreneurship under the NYSC program. Ahmad urged the corps members to fully utilize the initiative to become self-reliant and transform into job and wealth creators after their service year.

Skills acquisition is aimed at equipping you to become independent, self-reliant, and productive.

“The Federal Government is committed in supporting and empowering youths to ensure they can sustain themselves,” Ahmad stated.

He added that thousands of former corps members who took full advantage of the program are now self-sufficient.

The Director-General, however, cautioned corps members against unauthorized and night travels, inappropriate dressing, and other behaviors that could tarnish the image of the scheme.
