The Abia State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has uncovered an illegal refinery hidden in a forested area of Isiala Ihie community in Ugwunagbo Local Government Area, Abia State.
Two suspects were arrested at the site, where significant quantities of petroleum products, believed to have been siphoned from a nearby damaged pipeline, were also found.
The Crack Squad uncovered an illegal refinery concealed in the forest of Isiala Ihie community, leading to the arrests, according to a press statement by Doreen Udugwu, the Public Relations Officer of the Abia State Command of the NSCDC.
The statement revealed that during the sting operation, the Crack Squad confiscated large quantities of petroleum products at various stages of processing.
Speaking to journalists in his office on Wednesday, Akinsola Aderemi, the Commandant of the NSCDC in Abia State, stated that further investigations would be conducted to identify and arrest everyone involved in the illegal activity.
He stated that dismantling the illegal refinery and apprehending the suspects aligns with the directive of the NSCDC Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to combat illegal bunkering.
Akinsola emphasized that the Abia State Command is committed to making the state safe and secure for all law-abiding residents.
He also urged the public to support the NSCDC by sharing reliable information that could help in apprehending individuals with criminal intentions.
