Nigeria Declares Public Holidays for Christmas and New Year Celebration

The Federal Government has declared December 25 and 26, 2024, as well as January 1, 2025, as public holidays to celebrate Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year, respectively.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement signed by Magdalene Ajani, the ministry’s permanent secretary. Tunji-Ojo conveyed festive greetings to Nigerians, urging them to embrace the season as an opportunity to reflect on the values of love, peace, and unity.

“The Christmas season offers a time for spiritual reflection and national renewal. As we commemorate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, let us show kindness and spread goodwill to one another, regardless of our differences,” the statement emphasized.

He also encouraged Nigerians to promote harmony and strengthen family and community ties during the festive season. The minister stressed the need to remain dedicated to peace, unity, and national progress, while assuring citizens of the government’s commitment to security and prosperity nationwide.

Lastly, Tunji-Ojo also expressed optimism about President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he believes will foster economic growth and position Nigeria as a global model of success.
