Thursday’s discussions between President Bola Tinubu and the Organized Labour regarding the minimum wage were postponed until next week to allow broader consultation with all relevant parties.

The leaders of the Organised Labour, including Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, and Festus Osifo, President of the Trade Union Congress, arrived at the State House around 2:00 pm and were shown into President Tinubu’s office.

The Tripartite Committee on the new national minimum wage recently presented two proposals to the President and they were the organized private sector and government agreed paying N62,000, whereas Organized Labour insisted on N250,000

Due to the disagreement over the figure, the President postponed sending any figure to the National Assembly through the Executive Bill to consult with all important stakeholders and resolve the contentious problems

Ajaero, speaking to State House Correspondents after the meeting, indicated that there were no negotiations during the one-hour session.

Instead, he mentioned that the discussion revolved around the present economic conditions in the country.

In a real sense, it wasn’t a negotiation but a discussion and we have had that discussion. We agreed to look at the real terms, probably and reconvene in the next one week.
