The Kwara State Government has announced that Mrs. Fatima Amuzat, the teacher accused of assaulting a corps member, has been summoned, and appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken.
In a statement issued today, the Press Secretary for the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Peter Amogbonjaye, quoted the Commissioner, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu, condemning the incident.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the alleged assault occurred at Government Day Secondary School, Kulende, in Ilorin, where a female corps member was reportedly beaten by teachers.
The corps member was reportedly at the school to collect her clearance letter when she was assaulted by the teachers, who were allegedly upset that she did not greet them properly.
According to Peter Amogbonjaye, the Ministry’s Anti-Loitering Team and officials from the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission visited the school unannounced to investigate the incident and restore order.
He stated that the Commissioner, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu, condemned the act, describing it as unacceptable in both society and the state. She emphasized that Kwara is known for its peace and harmony, and the government would not tolerate actions that could disrupt the tranquility of its academic institutions.
The commissioner urged the National Youth Service Corps management and all stakeholders to remain patient, law-abiding, and continue performing their duties without fear.
The ministry’s press secretary added that the teacher involved in the incident has been summoned, and appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken.
