The Rivers political crisis has reignited as Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo’s faction of the state assembly opposes the resolution put forth by the Martin Amaewhule faction.
The Martin Amaewhule-led faction prevented Governor Siminalayi Fubara from using public funds on Monday, July 15, due to the governor’s failure to present the budget before the house.
However, the Oko-Jumbo-led faction claimed that Amaewhule and 24 others were no longer members of the house, calling on INEC to conduct by-elections to fill their place in the house.
The Rivers State House of Assembly, under Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo and aligned with Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s faction, has dismissed a resolution from a rival faction led by Martin Amaewhule, supporters of former Governor Nyesom Wike, which aimed to prevent the governor from using public funds.
