Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has confirmed Chief Tony Okocha as the party leader in Rivers State.
Ganduje stated that the executive committee led by Okocha, an associate of Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, is the Rivers State APC leadership officially recognized by the party’s national secretariat.
Ganduje announced this on Saturday in Port Harcourt during the inauguration of the newly elected state executive committee of the APC.
The APC National Chairman congratulated the newly elected officials and clarified the decision to hold the inauguration in Rivers State rather than at the party’s National Headquarters in Abuja.
He emphasized that the move signifies the party’s effort to strengthen ties between the national and state leadership, ensuring there is no division between the two structures.
Ganduje charged the state executive committee to prioritize internal democracy, highlighting it as a cornerstone of their responsibilities.
He further stressed the need to promote unity and inclusiveness within the party at the state level.
Speaking on the APC’s performance in the South-South, a region traditionally led by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ganduje highlighted the party’s progress, noting its governance in Cross River and Edo states.
He added that Rivers State is the party’s next strategic focus as it works to expand its presence in the region.
