On Wednesday, July 17, Dr. Yusuf Kofar-Mata, the Commissioner for Higher Education of Kano State, tragically lost three family members in a fire that engulfed his residence at Kofar-Mata quarters in the historic city.

The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday while family members were asleep.

According to reports, the commissioner narrowly escaped the disaster but tragically lost his daughter, Maimuna, his elder sister Khadija, and another close relative, Juwairiyya, in the unfortunate incident.

The Nigerian Tribune reported that numerous valuables were destroyed in the fire, though there is no official report available to confirm this yet.

Abdullahi Saminu, spokesperson for the State Fire Service, confirmed the incident and stated that the extent of damage and the cause of the fire could not be immediately determined.
