Fatal Shootings Result in Multiple Deaths in the Capital of Anambra.

A shooting rampage occurred in Awka, the capital of Anambra State, on Thursday morning, resulting in multiple fatalities, sources informed report.

According to one source, a student, the incident took place around 9:15 a.m. in Ifite Awka, claiming several lives.

Ifite Awka is largely populated by students from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The source suggested that the shooting might not be linked to cult-related activities.

Last Sunday, at least 12 people were killed in a cult-related shooting in Nibo, a town near Awka.

Another source reported that Thursday’s shooting took place in Ifite, close to the back gate of Unizik, Awka, not far from Amansea Road.

One source stated, “Gunmen just shot someone moments ago at Ifite, Awka. He’s lying dead.”

Another eyewitness, a lecturer, reported seeing seven lifeless bodies in the area and had to cancel her lectures and return home while on her way to school.

The exact number of victims remains unclear, but the State Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, did not confirm the incident, instead stating that a police response team had secured the scene and more information would be provided soon.

In a separate statement, Ikenga mentioned that the police had intercepted videos and voice notes from individuals planning to carry out violence in Awka.

He stated, “The Anambra State Police Command has launched an investigation into intercepted videos and voice notes circulating on social media that threaten violence in the state.

“The Police Command is taking these threats seriously and, as part of its duty to uphold law and order, will ensure that no individual or group is allowed to violate the fundamental rights of others.

“In response, the Police and other security agencies have increased patrols, strengthened security presence, and enhanced surveillance to enforce the law, maintain public order, ensure public safety, and provide other necessary services in the state.”
