Family demands justice after relative’s alleged death in police custody over a N220,000 debt.

Relatives of Jimoh Abdulquadri, a resident of the Balogun Fulani community in Erubu/Asunnara, Ilorin, claim he was killed while in police custody in Kwara State.

According to a reporter, Abdulquadri was arrested on Thursday over an alleged debt of N220,000 owed to an individual named Peter.

Tragically, Abdulquadri, popularly known as Van de Sar, reportedly died on Friday.

The deceased’s mother, Mrs. Adijat Moriyike, and elder brother, Ismail, have alleged that Jimoh Abdulquadri was tortured to death while in police custody.

Ismail urged the relevant authorities to investigate the incident and hold those responsible accountable to ensure justice.

In response, the Kwara Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident.

“The Kwara Police Command is aware of the unfortunate event that resulted in the tragic death of Mr. Jimoh Abdulquadri on Friday.

“The deceased was invited in connection with an alleged case of obtaining money under false pretenses amounting to N220,000,” she stated.

A thorough investigation into the incident has begun to determine the cause,” Ejire-Adeyemi stated.

“Updates on the findings will be shared as the investigation progresses, and every effort will be made to ensure no detail is overlooked,” she added.
