Protesters who assembled at the Lekki Toll Gate to commemorate the victims of the October 2020 rallies recounted their experiences with security forces.

According to the report, the protesters encountered strong opposition from the police when they converged at the Lekki Toll Gate.

The demonstrators were commemorating the fourth anniversary of the #EndSARS protests against police brutality and extrajudicial killings at the Lekki Toll Gate.

They alleged that the police assaulted them during the memorial procession on Sunday.

According to the report, a small group of protesters gathered at the Lekki Toll Gate to honor the memories of those who lost their lives during the nationwide protests in October 2020.

In a video shared on X by human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong, one of the protesters stated, “We are protesters who intended to commemorate the anniversary of #EndSARS but were intercepted by a group of policemen led by the commissioner of police.”

“I am speaking to you right now from a Black Maria, having been brutalized and beaten by the police. A police officer removed my glasses without any provocation.

“We want to know when it became illegal to protest in this country.”

However, the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) arrested the demonstrators on Sunday.

The protesters were apprehended at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos State on October 20, 2024, and placed inside a Black Maria.
