On Friday afternoon in Awka, Anambra State, suspected cultists reportedly killed a man named Nonso.
Nonso, the youngest of three brothers, had previously lost his two older brothers in similar cult-related incidents.
According to a source, Nonso was killed in broad daylight near the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, widely known as Amaku.
A close family source revealed that Nonso’s death is connected to the killing of his younger brother, Buchi, who was murdered three months earlier near MacDon Eatery.
Their eldest brother also met a violent death in an earlier attack, leaving their mother without any surviving children.
Awka has seen a rise in cult-related violence recently, with 16 people killed in Nibo and another seven in the Ifite Awka area.
Despite continuous reassurances from law enforcement, the violence continues unabated.
Anambra State Police Commissioner, Nnaghe Obono Itam, denounced the recent killing and vowed a comprehensive investigation.
“We will exhaust all efforts to capture those responsible and ensure they face justice,” he stated.
On Friday, the Ezinano Awka Community, headed by Ozo Jeff Nweke, announced a N10 million reward for information leading to the capture of those responsible for the Nibo Massacre and cautioned cultists to stay away from Awka and nearby areas.
