Nigeria was plunged into darkness after the national grid suffered another collapse on Monday.
Emeka Ezeh, the spokesperson for the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, confirmed the grid failure in a statement released on Monday evening.
He stated that the system collapse happened at 6:48 PM on Monday.
The distribution company stated that the incident has caused a widespread power outage across its service areas.
“The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) wishes to inform its valued customers of a general system collapse that happened at 6:48 PM on October 14, 2024. This has led to the ongoing power outage across the EEDC network.
As a result of this situation, all our interface TCN stations have lost power, preventing us from supplying electricity to our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States.”
We are currently on standby, awaiting comprehensive updates from the National Control Centre (NCC) in Osogbo regarding the grid collapse and efforts to restore supply,” he stated.
Additionally, Eko Distribution Company confirmed the grid collapse, stating, “Dear Valued Customer…”
Please be informed that a system collapse happened at 18:48 hours, leading to a widespread power outage across our network.
“We are collaborating with our partners to ensure a swift restoration of the grid and will keep you informed once power is restored.
“Thank you for your understanding.”
The report recorded that the power outage happened around 6:50 pm on Monday.
In August 2024, the grid experienced a partial failure, causing a blackout. The national grid had also collapsed earlier in July this year.
According to data from the Transmission Company of Nigeria, the national grid has failed approximately 227 times over the past 14 years.
This occurred following a 240 percent increase in electricity tariffs in April, which has further intensified the difficulties Nigerians are facing.
