ASP Fires Back at Kemi Badenoch

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Zyad Ibn Isah has responded to recent remarks made by UK Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch regarding the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

Badenoch, a British politician of Nigerian descent, has frequently highlighted shortcomings in Nigeria’s systems, a theme she emphasized during her campaign for her current role.

In a social media post, ASP Zyad Ibn Isah reminded Kemi Badenoch of the challenges faced by the London Metropolitan Police before significant reforms transformed it into its current state.

Isah, who serves as the media aide to the chairman of the Police Service Commission, acknowledged that while the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is not without flaws, similar reforms could elevate its performance to global standards.

He suggested Badenoch read David Rose’s In the Name of the Law, noting, “The London Metropolitan Police was in disarray during the 1960s, 1970s, and even into the 1980s. It took substantial reforms and even a rebranding to achieve the standard they have today.”

“If the questioner had asked a British citizen in the 1960s or 1970s whether they trusted the police, I doubt the answer would have been yes. Things were that dire back then.

“We know Nigeria and its police force are far from perfect, but we will overcome our challenges, just as the UK and its police force did. Aunty Kemi can continue her newfound hobby of criticizing her homeland while it lasts,” he wrote.
