Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, visited the Ikwerre Local Government Area secretariat on Monday to evaluate the damage caused by arsonists.
According to the report, arsonists targeted the Secretariat, setting it on fire on Monday.
The blaze reportedly destroyed glass windows, office equipment, files, chairs, tables, and other supplies.
Unidentified individuals set buildings on fire in Ikwerre and other local government areas just as newly elected council officials were set to assume office.
This occurred following the withdrawal of police officers guarding the 23 council secretariats by the Commissioner of Police on Monday.
Despite the police withdrawal, Governor Siminalayi Fubara maintained that the election would proceed on Saturday.
After the tense elections, the Action Peoples Party (APP) secured 22 out of 23 chairmanship positions in the oil-rich state, while the Action Alliance (AA) won one seat.
Governor Fubara inaugurated the 23 newly elected local government chairmen in Rivers State on Sunday, but some of the officials were attacked when they assumed office on Monday
