A 36-year-old woman, known only as Abiola, has been confirmed dead while undergoing a buttocks enlargement surgery at a clinic in Lekki-Phase 1, Lagos State.
Our correspondent learned on Wednesday that the incident happened around 3 pm on Monday.
A reporter reports that a buttocks enlargement procedure, commonly referred to as a Brazilian Butt Lift, is a cosmetic surgery where fat is taken from other parts of the body and injected into the buttocks to create a rounder, fuller appearance.
A police source, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the case, informed our correspondent that the woman had left her residence in Diamond Estate, Sangotedo, in the Ibeju Lekki area of the state, and instructed her driver to take her to the clinic for the surgery.
Upon arriving at the clinic, our correspondent learned that the clinic owner directed a nurse to give the young woman an injection.
However, shortly after the injection was administered, it was reported that Abiola lost consciousness and started struggling to breathe.
In an attempt to manage the situation and prevent further complications, the lady was immediately taken to a hospital in Lekki Phase 1, where she was pronounced dead.
The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident to reporter on Wednesday, stating that a suspect connected to the case was arrested on Tuesday.
Hundeyin said, “The deceased’s private driver reported the incident to the Maroko division. Our officers visited the scene, and the body was transported to a public morgue for an autopsy.
The nurse who administered the injection has been arrested, and an investigation is currently underway.”
