Residents of Dokan Karji community in Kauru LGA, Kaduna State, have urgently requested the Federal Government to deploy military forces to stop the ongoing abductions and killings by bandits.
They also called on the Chief of Defense Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, to swiftly tackle the security issues affecting their community.
In a statement by Youth Leader Aminu Khalid, the community expressed distress over the continuous attacks, which have caused residents to fear for their safety, leading many to seek refuge in safer areas.
The appeal followed recent attacks that resulted in more than 14 villages being overrun by bandits.
The youth leader further explained that Dokan Karji is the largest community in the area, revealing that since April, over 50 people have been killed and more than 170 have been abducted.
He stated that many community members have been held captive by the bandits for more than six months, with over N700 million paid in ransom.
He further mentioned, “Dokan Karji, once a peaceful farming community with thriving economic activities, has now become a hotspot for bandit activity.”
The lack of military protection has strengthened the criminals, resulting in frequent kidnappings, murders, and the displacement of hundreds of residents.
“The recent assault on the farmers serves as a clear reminder of the worsening security situation in our region.”
Khalid stated that many families have been enduring ongoing tragedies due to the loss of their loved ones at the hands of bandits.
He emphasized that their only hope for survival is for the military and the Federal Government to take immediate action.
He appealed to the Chief of Defense Staff to come to the aid of their vulnerable communities, which have been repeatedly attacked and subjected to constant killings.
He also praised LT. Col. Osuake, the Sector 7 Commander, for his efforts in fighting banditry in the region.
He stated, “Col. Osuake has bravely worked to bring peace back to our communities, and he deserves our praise at all times.”
