5 Ogboni Chiefs Sentenced to six Months in Prison Each for Disturbing Public Peace in Ogun.

An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court in Isabo on Wednesday sentenced five Ogboni chiefs to six months in prison each.

According to the reporter, the convicted chiefs are Anthony Ogunseye (55), Ajasa Enisemo (67), Saheed Sanusi (50), Oludotun Oliyide (60), and Fatai Mutairu (63).

They were found guilty of charges including conspiracy, malicious damage, conduct likely to disrupt public peace, and theft.

In her judgment, Magistrate E.O. Ogunyemi stated that the prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt, confirming the guilt of the defendants.

She further ruled that the prosecution’s evidence was credible and sentenced each of the chiefs to six months in prison, with an option to pay a fine of ₦50,000.

Earlier, Prosecutor Inspector Olaide Rawlings informed the court that the offences were committed on March 21, 2023, around 12:15 p.m. at the Ogboni House in the Igbore area.

She added that the chiefs also stole two crossed bars installed on the doors of the Ogboni Igbore House by the local government.

The prosecutor stated that the offences violated Sections 451, 516, 249(d), and 383 of the Criminal Code, Volume II, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
