Popular Nigerian rapper Michael Ugochukwu Stephens, widely known as Ruggedman, has revealed why he withdrew his support for the controversial self-proclaimed activist, VeryDarkMan.
In the latest episode of the Echoo Room podcast, the rapper explained that he stopped backing VeryDarkMan when the activist began interfering in people’s private lives.
He stated that VeryDarkMan’s method of activism has become less reasonable.
“I appreciated VeryDarkMan at first when he began addressing the NAFDAC number issue, but when he started delving into people’s private lives, especially targeting women, I felt he was just losing focus.”
“But it’s like saying a policeman used a shooting, which should be a last resort, as his first option. They might tell you that’s acceptable, but as a professional, you should handle it differently.
“So even if someone criticizes you, there’s a proper way to respond. Not by attacking their family. You won’t see me doing that, but that’s just me.
“I no longer appreciate his approach. He used to call out people selling products without a NAFDAC number, which was commendable, but now, what do you hear about him?”
I’m referring to the situation with Iyabo Ojo and her daughter, which is why I’m not okay with his approach. Any reaction he gets from them is likely due to his own comments.
“I believe his remarks were related to Mohbad’s situation, where he accused retired actresses of using it for publicity. It’s well-known that he was referring to Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dikeh.”
“You can’t make a statement like that and not expect a reaction. He initiated it, which is what I meant by getting involved in people’s private lives.
